Introducing... Lynda McCartney
Professional Tutor
Director/Owner
16 Years Teaching - 5 years Private Tutoring
Specialities: Reading Remediation and Instruciton, Dyslexia, Speech/Language Issues

Lynda has been professionally tutoring struggling readers for the past five years. Her background in speech language pathology and special education has given her a strong understanding of how the brain processes language and and how it relates to reading. She works primarily with dyslexic students who are struggling with reading, writing, spelling, and math. She also works with students who have fallen through the cracks at school and are struggling with decoding, comprehension or test taking strategies. She has develped teaching strategies and curriculum that have been instrumental in helping these children make significant gains in reading growth in a relatively short period of time.

She also developed (and teaches) the R.E.A.D. series classes at the Winter Haven Public Library. These classes are designed to educate the public about struggling readers and how we can be proactive in helping them. Classes are free to the public, are offered once a month, and are sponsored by the City of Winter Haven.

Lynda's tutoring philosopy is "A child's mind can grow and learn to the extent that it is challenged." This produces results that "Exceeds All Expectations" in each and every student!

18 Years Teaching Experience - 4 Years Private Tutoring

Specialities: English, Grammar, Writing, Elementary Math

Born in
Indiana, Pennsylvania, Karen Wilkins attended the local public schools and after graduation, moved to Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania where she attended Baptist Bible College.  She graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Religious Education (B.S.) with an emphasis on K-8th grades.  After graduation, she worked with the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC), evaluating and developing educational plans for clients attending the programs at ARC.

Upon moving to Florida, Karen taught in private schools, teaching first through 11th grades.  In 1984, she accepted the Department Chairmanship of the Grace Christian Schools of Pasco high school. While at GCS, she taught English, writing, and history as well as coordinating the high school department.

Karen left the formal workforce to raise her two daughters, home educating them from preschool through high school graduation, seeing them successfully complete college. During these years, Karen led children’s ministries at her church.  She developed and implemented programs for training other leaders to teach in these ministries.

Karen’s expertise and experience in teaching English grammar, writing, and elementary mathematics has been an asset in her four years as a private tutor.  She enjoys the challenge of creating specialized tools for hands-on learners and loves to see the delight in the eyes of a child when they finally “get it” using those tools.

“My desire is to see each child I work with succeed and will use as many strategies as it takes to help your child experience success!”

Introducing... Wendy Godwin
Professional Tutor
10 Years Teaching Experience - 5 Years Private Tutoring
Specialities: Math, Reading, GED Prep

Throughout her high school years, Wendy maintained an A-B average. The love of learning and setting and achieving goals was instilled in her at an early age. She believes firmly that we, as individuals, should try to do our best at all we do and she aspires to instill these ideals into the children and adults that she has the privilege to tutor.

Wendy also believes that a balanced life must include quality time with one’s family. As the mother of three girls, she was thrilled to be given the opportunity to home school her own children. She invested 10 years into this exciting endeavor, and although it meant putting her own career and educational goals on hold for awhile, she would not trade that experience for anything in the world.  She brings with her a wealth of knowledge working with different curriculum and various age groups. In addition to her own children, Wendy has worked with elementary and middle school students as well as adults pursuing their GED.

She currently carries a grade point average of 4.0 at Hillsborough Community College where she is pursuing an associate’s degree with an emphasis in education. Having just completed classes in Intermediate Algebra and Freshman English Comp., she has a fresh knowledge of these fields that would well serve students in middle school and high school.

Wendy’s love of tutoring and desire to see her students succeed are what motivate her. She believes that every child can learn and each deserves a chance to develop their unique skills in an environment conducive to learning. She will use encouragement as a powerful tool to build your child’s self esteem and confidence and then give them the tools that they need to succeed. Wendy is looking forward to meeting your student and working with his/her individual learning style to bring out the best in each child.
