Summer Blast-Off Reading Program
2009
Summer Blast-Off reading is a summer intensive reading program designed to give your Kindergartner or 1st grader a "Blast-Off" in reading when the school year starts. Over the summer months your child will learn the foundations of reading prior to starting Kindergarten or 1st grade. In most cases, children who complete the program will be reading above their peers when the school year starts. Many are even reading above grade level! This builds confidence and sets them off for a great year of learning.
Q&A
How Reading Blast-Off Works?
Blast-Off is a three-month long reading program consisting of one-on-one instruction personalized to your child’s reading needs. Lessons are one hour in length and are offered two, three, or four days per week during the summer months. During each lesson your child will be taught beginning phonics and reading readiness skills that will boost their reading ability regardless of their background and/or past educational experiences.
Why Teach Reading BEFORE Kindergarten? Won’t they learn it in Kindergarten anyways? If my child learns to read now, won’t they be bored in Kindergarten? What if my child doesn’t know their ABC’s? How old does my child have to be? Where will instruction take place? Who is the instructor? What if my child can’t attend all three sessions? How old does my child have to be? There isn’t an age requirement, however your child should be starting Kindergarten or 1st Grade in the Fall of 2009. Summer tutoring for other ages and subjects is also available. Call for more information.Instruction will take place at the tutoring studio located at 4262 Shadow Wood Lane, Winter Haven, FL 33880 (near Winter Lake Road 540/Spirit Lake Road).
What if my child misses sessions or classes because of vacation or illness? How many children will you accept? What can I expect at the end of the summer reading program? Do you have testimonials? How do I register? Registration begins with a simple phone call.

Reading is the key to success in every area of academics. Studies have shown that a child who reads above grade level out performs their peers in all other subject areas. Not only that, but children who are successful with reading at an early age have increased self-confidence, become leaders in the classroom, and have fewer behavioral problems.
How is the “Blast Off” Program different than a summer reading program at the Library? The summer reading program offered by local libraries encourages children to read or be read to but it doesn’t TEACH your child how to read. The “Blast Off” Program is specifically designed to give systematic instruction at a level your child can understand, implement, and be successful with.
How is the Blast-Off Reading Program different from other summer reading programs?
Other summer reading programs offered through universities and tutoring companies typically provide instruction one day per week in a group session with high student/teacher ratios. Blast-Off is uniquely different in that your child receives direct one-on-one instruction tailored to his/her needs. Instruction is consistent and frequent insuring a higher level of success for your child.
Some will, some won’t. Our schools face many challenges today. With high student-to-teacher ratios, financial cut-backs, and a lack of teachers, more and more children are falling behind in literacy. Give yourself the assurance of knowing your child has quality instruction at a critical age for success.
Good question. Let’s think about the answer. Every child entering Kindergarten or 1st grade wants to learn read. And those who start the school year successful have a confidence that sets them up for success the rest of year. These are the children who are excited about learning and who look for opportunities to use their knowledge and skills in their everyday learning at home and school.
Blast-Off reading instruction begins at the most basic level needed. Children do not need a basic knowledge of the ABC’s. It will be included as “fuel” for their “Blast-Off”.
What is the time commitment?
